On 8 August 2025, H.E. Mr. Sathana Kashemsanta Na Ayudhya, Ambassador of Thailand to the Hellenic Republic, had a meeting with Ambassador Spyridon Voulgaris, Director of A9 Directorate for Asia and Oceania of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic, to provide the information on the border situation between Thailand and Cambodia where Cambodia initiated the indiscriminate attacks on Thailand resulting in the losses of civilian lives and damages of civilian infrastructure, including a hospital and a school.

The Ambassador reiterated Thailand’s commitment to international laws and human rights and that Thailand has fully complied with the ceasefire agreement reached by both sides on 28 July 2025. However, it is disappointing that Cambodia violated the ceasefire on multiple occasions and areas. The Thai side has exercised utmost restraint and responded only in self-defense. It is Thailand’s desire to sustain a ceasefire and to resolve the border tensions through peaceful means under existing bilateral mechanisms. He also briefed on the outcome of the Extraordinary Meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) at the level of Minister of Defense between Thailand and Cambodia on 7 August 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia which delivered positive results.

Ambassador Spyridon Voulgaris thanked the Thai Ambassador for the information and welcomed positive outcome from the GBC Meeting. He also expressed his support for dialogues under the existing mechanisms.

Both ambassadors also took the opportunity to discuss on issues related to the bilateral relations between Thailand and the Hellenic Republic and the relations between Thailand and the European Union.
